Primative Rustic Camping included for Free

July 17 to 19 in Frankenmuth, Monster Summer Camp is a hands-on weekend experience for aspiring performers, alternative artists, and curious weirdos ready to step deeper into the world of Monster Drag.

This is real, guided, small-group training with live practice, feedback, performance coaching, and immersive creative development led by experienced Monsters who know how to turn an idea into a full stage presence.

What Is Monster Summer Camp?

Monster Summer Camp is a weekend training experience built for people who want to learn the foundations of Monster Drag and alternative performance in a supportive, creative, high-energy environment.

Over the course of the weekend, you’ll explore the essentials of building a performance persona from the inside out, including makeup, wigs, special effects, character creation, stage presence, and performance development.

Each night ends with a live group showcase so you can practice what you’re learning in front of an audience of your fellow campers.

You do not need to be polished.
You do not need to have years of experience.
You just need the guts to show up.

Who This Is For

Monster Summer Camp is designed for:

  • New performers who want a real starting point
  • Drag artists looking to develop a darker, more theatrical edge
  • Alternative creatives who want to build a character and perform
  • People who feel called to Monster Drag but have no idea where to begin
  • Performers who want feedback, structure, and a safe place to practice
  • Artists who are tired of trying to figure it all out alone in a bathroom mirror at 1:14 AM

Whether you’ve never touched a wig or you already have a creature living inside your ribcage begging for stage time, this camp is built to help you grow.

What You’ll Learn

Throughout the weekend, campers will receive hands-on guidance in:

Monster Makeup & Special FX
Learn foundational techniques for creating bold, theatrical, creature-driven looks with real impact.

Wig Basics & Styling
Understand wig prep, styling approaches, shaping, and how to make your hair support your character instead of fighting for its life.

Character Creation
Build a point of view, aesthetic, backstory, and performance identity that feels strong, intentional, and memorable.

Stage Presence & Performance Skills
Work on movement, expression, audience connection, confidence, and how to command a room when you step into it.

Marketing & Presentation
Learn how to package yourself as a performer, talk about your work, and start building a presence beyond the stage.

Live Showcase Practice
Each night includes a practice performance opportunity so you can apply what you’re learning in real time.

How the Weekend Works

Monster Summer Camp is structured as a small-group, immersive experience with 4 Monster Camp Counselors offering real guidance and feedback throughout the weekend.

This is not a crowded convention setup where you get ten minutes of vague advice and a sticker.
This is focused, practical, and personal.

You’ll spend the weekend learning, creating, connecting, and building confidence with people who actually get it.

What Makes This Different

There are plenty of places to watch performers.
There are far fewer places where you actually get to become one.

Monster Summer Camp is built around action, experimentation, and creative courage. You’ll be learning in an environment designed to help you try things, make discoveries, get feedback, and leave with more clarity than you came in with.

You’re not just attending an event.
You’re stepping into a world.

Expect a weekend that feels part workshop, part creative lab, part summer fever dream for future Monsters.

Stay On Site

Campers are welcome to camp overnight for free on the private property throughout the weekend.

That means more time to connect, collaborate, decompress, and stay inside the experience without rushing off the second the workshop ends.

Bring what you need to camp comfortably and be ready for a weekend that feels a little feral in the best possible way.

Optional Daily Add-On

Want supplies included?

Add $25 per day and receive:

  • 1 wig
  • Sample makeup
  • Special FX supplies to keep
  • Dinner

This add-on is a great option for campers who want a lower barrier to entry and a little less stress packing their own materials.

Why You Should Come

Because maybe you’ve been watching from the sidelines.
Because maybe you’ve had ideas but no roadmap.
Because maybe you’ve wanted to perform, transform, experiment, or just find your people.

This is your chance to stop thinking about it and actually do it.

Monster Summer Camp is about growth, creativity, performance, and permission. Permission to be bigger. Stranger. Sharper. Bolder. More you.
